Stephen King's It

Horror • NR • Directed by: Tommy Lee Wallace • 187 minutes

It can be anything. A fanged monster that won't stay on the movie screen. Something ominous lurking in the basement. No matter what your biggest fear is, no one knows It better than Stephen King. Based on the King Of Horror's 1986 bestseller, It is a jittery, jolting excursion into personal fear. A malevolent force in a small New England town takes the shape of a clown, but he's not clowning around. Instead, he terrifies youngsters and brings some to their untimely doom - until some wily kids fight back. The evil resurfaces 30 years later: meaner, angrier, deadlier. And friends who vividly remember youthful terrors reunite to fight It.

This movie doesn’t hold up at all, the remake is much better. Another problem is this isn’t widescreen, it doesn’t bother me but I know some people won’t like that. — pholly

Great movie!!
★★★★★
I really loved this movie. It has the drama, and suspense witch makes the movie great to watch. Tim curry did a great job as pennywise. Pennywise also was very funny in some parts in the movie .(the library filled with raining balloons that sprayed blood everywhere and pennywise twisting what I think was a pepper shaker and blurting out jokes and laughing really cracked me up) can’t wait to see the 2017 one!!!!!!!!!!!!! — kjjjjjjjcghknhhbvg

It (1990): Review
★★★★
A lot of people often regard this as one of the best classic horror movies ever...It's time for people to take off their nostalgia glasses, bad is bad. With the cheap budget and effects, as well as poor scares, you're better off watching the 2017 remake. To put it another way, skip and forget this and watch the much better 2017 verison with Bill Skarsgård instead. Rating: 2/10. — Landon Manbearpig Miller

I LOVE THIS! It is and always will be a cult favorite. While today, it is cheesy, that just makes it better. The kids are great, the adults are great, and Tim Curry truly is Pennywise The Dancing Clown. — ZenickFTW

1990 Made for TV movie
★★★★★
Kids are funny. They really are. The movie is from 1990. It was a two-part made-for-TV movie. We're talking network TV. Horror films like this were rare on TV, but for Stephen King, the Network's often made exceptions. There were other made-for-TV movies done in parts, written by Stephen King, and I remember looking forward to most of them. I was 9 or 8 with this came out, and it was particularly haunting for me, but I still loved every second. — XingSanchez

"Have you seen,"The Grease Pigeon XXX Explosion of the Cardinal." I said, " No, but I have seen its prequel." Bill said " You mean to tell me you saw, "The Grease Pigeon XXIX Judgement Day of the Blue Jay Times Explosion. That's Rated R." I said " Yea it was bloody" Bill said. " and to think it was all produced by Michael Bay, the guy with unnecessary sequels to bad movies" Bill said. "You know the next Grease Pigeon movie will involve a cyborg crow." Bill said. " No way the last time he had a crow in his movie was in "The Grease Pigeon VII The Night of the Crow Black Darkness Part 1" I said " And the last time they had a cyborg was in "The Grease Pigeon XIV Robotic Caw" Bill said. " I wonder if they'll ever use a human in the next movie like in "The Grease Pigeon VIII The Night of the Crow Black Darkness Part 2" I said " or in "The Grease Pigeon XXII The Land of Human at the End of the Earth" I said " My favorite movie is " The Grease Pigeon XXV Pelican Attack Bay" Bill said " Mine is "The Grease Pigeon II Revenge of the Bat" I said " No way that was a terrible movie out of the first five at least "The Grease Pigeon V Seahawks Last Stand" Bill said " and out of XX to XXV you should have chosen a better one like "The Grease Pigeon XXIII Falcon Squad" I said. "But a least we can both agree that "The Grease Pigeon X Knight Hawk Rises" is the best Bill said "Yes we can" I said. "And Did you here about the lawsuit Grease Pigeons is doing against "Oily Owls II Spill of the Century" I said. "Yeah because it was to similar to "Grease Pigeons XIII Oil Wall Broken" Bill said "It also was the first bird movie to have a transgender bird" I said "Hey I just saw the new Grease Pigeons movie "The Grease Pigeons XXXI Seahawk Revolution" I said "Cool I can't wait for "The Grease Pigeons XXXII Seahawks Into the Light" Bill said "Neither can I. I hope it is as good as Grease Pigeons XVIII Pigeon of the Night" I said "Or Grease Pigeons XXVIII Cardinals Calling" Bill said Out of know where Sally, Bills younger sister came downstairs and she said "It seems like you guys have been talking for about 3 years straight with long breaks in between, can't you guys be normal and play your Xbox 1" Bill in shock stood there in disbelief his sister had walked downstairs but she was handicapped she couldn't walk she was faking it but he would rather talk about the Grease Pigeon Xbox Games with me, Steve. "Did you see their coming out with a new a new Grease Pigeons game "Grease Pigeons The Chronicles of the Crow" Bill said "Yeah but their last game "Grease Pigeon Racing" I love playing using Sergeant Seagull in his Sand buggy" I said "Isn't that free on the App Store for iPhone and Samsung users" Bill said "Hey Bill we have been talking about this for hours can we switch the subject" I said " Do you want to talk about Jake Paul" Bill said I said "No" Bill then said "Then we are going to talk about Grease Pigeons" I then looked at him with a glare in my eye and said "Okay I like "Grease Pigeons Party Plaza" with so many mini games and being able to chose one of sixty four birds to play as" I said, then out of nowhere a man crashes into Bills wall killing Bill and his little — Rollsell

It's very campy, cheesy and not necessarily scary. It doesn't hold up and is very outdated. However, there are worse ways to spend 3 hours. Tim Curry was Pennywise. Charming, charismatic and pretty creepy. — Ghost Of Mbenga

Stephen King's IT (1990)
★★★★
Why there no Widescreen Version available? Today standard have HDTV Widescreen not Full Frame or Pan Scan Version of the movie. I prefer Widescreen for Stephen King's IT (1990) Movie that can that can make the movie enhanced the quality of the picture and Widescreen with Closed Captions for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Thank you. — I'm DEAF!!!

Old version
★★★★★
I gave it 3 stars even though I haven't seen it. The reason is iTunes does not identify this as the 1990 version as opposed to the new one. Also, I stopped reading Stephen Kings decades ago - even though he is a very talented writer. I just grew tired of the genre. — thinkman

Alright TV miniseries...not a "MOVIE."
★★★★★
A lot of people don't seem to know that this was a 2 part miniseries back in 1999 and not a movie. That's why the content wasn't as intense and violent as the novel (or the 2017 feature film...the first time this story has actually been on the silver screen.). Also it's why the original format of this wasn't widescreen...it was the old school 4:3 square shape (a DVD was released a few years ago that cut off the top and bottom of the picture to make it "look" widescreen). Given the issues that held back the storytelling due to it being a TV miniseries, this was an ok retelling of the story. However, I'm grateful for the 2017 feature film being made, as it is able to have much more of the tone and feel of the book than this did. — JRock8046

A horror move with an aquired taste
★★★★★
When I first saw this movie, I was 15, and prior to watching this movie, I had only watched jump scary movies. After watching it, I was very disappointed. Almost 3 hours of my life wasted. After hearing about the remake, I decided to give it another chance. 'IT' isn't about being jump scary, but the essence, and the principle of it is what makes the movie scary. I love this movie. — mylifeisjoe83

Great Even As Time Passes By
★★★★★
This was a good two part series back in the eighties. Today it is still entertaining and a bit creepy. Hasn't lost a thing to time, except for the fact that it feels a bit slow. The ending ruins it, like it does in a lot of Stephen King's work. Lets hope they patch this mistake in the upcoming Andrés Muschietti 2017 verison. — Ryuku San

The movie is good but is edited from original mini series but scary as heck so we all float down here Georgie they all float down here from penny wise 🤡 I'm in you're sewage — ktp185

Read the book
★★★★★
It is hard to turn 1,138 pages of plot in a book into a film without it lasting 4 hours. Additionally, most of scarry moments from the book were difficult, if not impossilbe to pull-off without CGI (early 90's). Given them credit for what they had to work with, I was still underwhelmed by how they translated the plot, and the lack of the best of the scary scenes in the book. I would either read the book (which is incredible), and wait for a remake to be released Sept 8, 2017. It will be a duology (two films), and most likely a better recreation of the book. — Smsnfbduslsb

Not That Scary
★★★★★
I must say, the book was frightening. But a lot of the content in the book was kept out of the film. (For some obvious reasons) This just wasn't scary. At all. I mean even if you are afraid of clowns, Pennywise never kills anyone on screen. Not as scary as I would have liked it to be, but it was still entertaining. Good adaptation of the book to the screen. — Movie Reviewer 🐰

Enjoyable!
★★★★
I never saw this when it first came out, most likely cause I was a kid and totally terrified of clowns. Still hate clowns but able to watch it now an adult. It's a good mini series/long movie. There are parts that are creepy and disturbing but it's mostly not that scary. Overall though, a great classic worth cheaking out. — amonahanart

Not as good as I thought it would be.
★★★★★
I heard about the 2017 version of IT, and I never watched the 1990 version, so I watched it. I guess since Im not from the generation that the movie came out in, my definition of scary is different. But, it's not that scary, more silly and possibly funny, yet people may disagree. — This is the game!!!!!

Ugh
★★★★
I get why this movie is a cult classic. The cheesy acting and special effects and that being a made for TV movie. But...this doesn't follow the book at all. The book was absolutely genius and if any of you have seen or read the book it is nearly impossible to fit all of that into a 3 hour movie or even a four hour movie. It's not even that. There were just so many inaccuracies in this though. Doesn't even come close to following the book when it comes to the way the characters are described, to the lack of Bills stutter, to everything else. I just didn't like it period. — Chabeybaby

IT awakens every 27 years to murder kids and torment souls...
★★★★
It's been 27 years since this film was released...and lookie here, we have a new IT film coming out September 8, 2017...COINCIDENCE? The new film looks amazing, and I don't really watch horror films let alone get hyped about new ones but I am definitely excited for it. That said, the 1990 film is its own movie and isn't being rebooted nor will it serve as inspiration for the new film -- so you don't need to watch this to watch the new one or vice versa as they're two different takes (like Hamlet by your local HS and Hamlet at London's West End). It was top-notch horror that changed the way I slept, and how I acted around clowns and...storm drains (I no longer seek out conversation with the "downstairs folk" because of Pennywise). Anyway, if you are hyped to watch the new one -- which you are, given that you're reading these user reviews on the page of the 1990 film -- I would say to watch the new one first since it's a shinier (more expensive) adaptation of the book. In other words, instead of taking the first film and rebooting it, the new film is its own thing altogether -- as it's based on the book and not on this film. Because of that, I recommend watching the newer one just because it follows the book and I'd rather find out about the core elements of the story through a newer, higher-budgeted, cleaner film than through the TV version from the late-80s technically, despite Tim Curry's sublime portrayal. That said, this version is a decent adaptation of the book and you should watch it and REMEMBER THAT THIS IS ITS OWN THING SEPARATE FROM THE 2017 FILM, JUST LIKE JAMES BOND FILMS WITH DIFFERENT ACTORS -- THEY ARE JUST NEW FILMS BASED ON THE ORIGINAL BOND BOOKS — Blinkuldhc 1

It's a great movie, really great! But there are a couple mistakes. A couple stop-motions are present in the movie and each are horrible. Some scenes are cut off and leaves us scratching our heads on what happened next. The ending was unexpected in a kinda not good way. Rating: 8/10 — King dude11

This is a book I was always going to read , but never did. I eventually read the book, and was shockingly disappointed with it. It is overly long, and drawn out. When the book did finally get my attention, it stops, and utterly bored me. I have read many, many Stephen King books, and this is by far the stinker in his collection. I only hope the movie strays from the book, and does it justice. — rcgl4
