Wordy opinions and interpretations only rob this stellar story of its magic... allow yourself to be pulled in to its beauty, drama and belief that no matter who you are, no matter when or where, they is a purpose for you and love is all around... like the shape of water. — cc101productions
What appeared to be an interesting science fiction movie is in fact pornagraphy. In the 10 minutes that I watched I was amazed, IMO this movie should be “X” rated. — USBP1969
Loved the sixties retro feel of the film. And no, it's not Splash. It's way more original. Great acting too. — WickedChicklette
Sickness is deep
Anyway you spin it it’s about a woman screwing a monster. Amazing how people see beauty in this. Just shows how far morals have dropped. I guess next a picture about a woman screwing a dog will win awards. Sick plain sick — Headon straight
The Shape of Water
Two stars for a creative twist on the creature from the black lagoon, but the movie felt like it was reaching for Hidden Figures meets the Big Fish. While I enjoy fantasy movies and I believe in equality for all, they lost me in accepting beastiality as acceptable. As for the writing, character development involved a depiction of a lonely woman who boils eggs and masturbastes before work, and can't stop taking her clothes off for the fish man. My opinion is they could have gotten him back in the water and on his way home an hour before the movie actually ended and let us move on to watching a good movie like Hidden Figures. — BooleanValues
Top 5 worst movies - OF ALL TIME!
Essentially a low budget monster vs human "B" movie that might have been seen in the 40s/50s that has been revamped into a current day CG movie. As typically is the case, Hollywood gives this lemon an Oscar, proving once again how out of touch that crowd has become with what the average American defines as entertainment. I feel robbed of 2 hours of my life. — jeabuddy
One of Del Toro’s finest films
The shape overcomes it’s somewhat predictable narrative with amazing performances, visuals and emotional story — AHS2004
It was interesting, I'll give you that.
You know, it was interesting. It was unique. Was it my favorite? No. Parts of it were a little too unbelieveable (no, not the magical fish man part, but the romance) and felt a tad rushed. It was kind of weird how much focus was put on sex and sexuality, but in the end it worked out. That being said, it had a satisfying enough ending. The meaning behind the film wasn't explicity stated, but came across without being forced. Overall, entertaining. The musical number was a bit out there though, and felt a little... Odd. Still, I can see the appeal. Was it Oscar worthy? I honestly don't know. I can't say that I felt attached to any of the characters. I can't say I finished watching this movie feeling enlightened. But I can say the visual effects were quite nice. Everything blended well visually and it was a much nicer contrast to all these movies today that like to blast orange and yellow tones into our eyes. Will I remember this movie in a year? Probably not everything. Was it better than most everything else put out this year? Most likely. Did I really care about it? Eh... Not really. But I do see and understand the creativity behind it and applaud the minds that put it together. — NiaDC
Awful Story Flow, Great Design and Soundtrack
It was like the director knew it was a weak story so he filled the holes with tangents that went no where, sexual remarks, and nudity that had little purpose or reason to be included. I would have liked to see more to the love story than the, “Feed a fish an egg and get laid.” It was disappointingly shallow. Aside from the story, the production design was great! I loved the whole look of the creature and the atmosphere of the sets. I also loved the charming soundtrack which went well with the time period of the story. — edensaber
This movie makes no sense!
Leftist movie that makes little sense. Very painful to watch. — akwardsmile
Smells Like Fish
Stupid with good cinematography. It's ludicrous to the point of being ridiculous. — Uncle Squid
It got that whole vibe from Hellboy just not the name. I don't think he is like Abe/ his grandfather. Also I think the girl was part fish anyway because of the scars are her neck and that she was found by the river when she was a child. The whole bad guy scenes could have just been left out and would have love to seen more of her story. Cause the bad guys were just boring. Except for the science guy who try to help them. And the dance and song seen was just weird lol. I enjoy the movie. — Lcempj
Good not great
Good movie but not the one that I would have given an Oscar to . — Andrea-on-the-go
It’s beautiful, It’s innocent, it’s raw, and it’s real. There’s nothing more to say other than to watch it. — Ville Vall
The best romantic movie of 2018 ever to be put on in theaters.... #amazingmovie — Blossomlala
weight of garbage
I thought the movie was terrible. Slow, superficial and boring! — davdvn
I enjoy DelToro as a director immensely. One is for me is I couldn’t unsee Abe Sapien in his creature. The film is good but I’m not sure why all the Academy Awards. The pacing was slow at times and it seemed 20 mins too long. The supporting actors were amazing. The writing was good. I just think it missed on keeping the audience engaged throughout. — omnibusfilms
Beastiality Exceptance Movie
If you are into beastiablity and gratuitous sex this movie is for you. I found it slow, boring, and the story uninteresting Yet another cold war, the Russians are evil, gay people are always good, the gratuitous black woman of Hollywood stereotypical character was more than I could stand. Hollywood is becoming a nothing more than a cliche. Half of the lines in the movie were copied from countless other scripts: "it's my life and I have to find my own path". Really? How about some fresh and creative dialog for a change. — Storylvr
Una de las mejores películas que he visto😍💕 — kylie_x69
A Beautiful Homage
This movie cannot be reduced to "Woman has sex with a fish" that seems to permeate the lexicon of the general public and naysayers alike. It is a multi-level, multi-dimensional love story that transcends genre while simultaneously incorporating all genres of film. Visuals, special effects and acting are all on point and perfectly balanced. Open your heart to this and you will be rewarded. It is fantastical. — pureimagination

A Beautiful Film And Fine Piece Of Art
I believe that if someone does not like this film; that they find it "boring" or some other negatives, they are lacking something inside the depths of soul and heart. It is simple in plot but all of it is beautiful. From the movements of the creature to the script to the sound track. The actors are all excellent. Some fools have made much of hints at sexual content and seen it as a sex between human and fish (shakes head). It expresses intimacy. There are layers in this beautiful film. Layers to look at and see. Just as the colors used are layered and beautiful. — ScottBruneau
Drunk Moni watches movies
This movie is great!! it should have more than 4 stars! the force awakens is is f3 stars!! this is like freaking 5! beause its amazing. — Drunk moni

Outstanding movie, good for kids!
Ever since watching the first trailer I wanted to see this. It takes you through and amazing journey of not only understanding what people with differences feel but also what those around them experience. I highly recommend that you have your children watch, it is a great example of compassion, friendship, bravery, and love. — Oscar85871
It’s ok. A little slow. Topic is too weird for me, while the love story is beautiful it’s just gross to imagine a woman having sex with an animal/ monster. Didn’t relate to their bond, pretty much love at first sight for her and I’m not sure what it was for him. Definitely not best picture or most entertaining of 2017. I remember I loved Pan’s Labyrinth, but this was just ok at best. — tobymicahevan
Typical Hollywood Overtones
The film is laden with political overtones (probably why it won the Academy awards). The white, heterosexual, American male (aka the Trump 2016 voter) is once again depicted with the requisite prejudices: racism, sexism, militarism, and (of course) Christianity. Sr. Del Toro, the next time you would like to make a film about bigotry, might I suggest an autobiographical work. Sincerely, a Trump 2020 voter. — Fresno1211
I cannot believe this won the Oscar for best movie
We watched this movie believing it had to be good because of the Oscar it had won. Wow, were we surprised! It’s one of the worse movies I’ve watched, a total Hollywood attempt to educate the “dumb” masses with their twisted Hollywood view of the world. — jvdiaz95
One of the stupidest movies I’ve watched in my life — Tuong K Le
Oddly retold “Splash” with a gender swap & Del Toro Wierdness
The plot: mute chick living with gay artist bangs a fishman. It’s basically “Splash” but without the comedy or charm. I sat through the whole thing and was grateful it eventually reached its predictable conclusion. Definitely not Del Toro’s best. — TheRealFisky
White man hating left wing propaganda
Oh how the radical left would be happy with this fine piece of stereotype generating propaganda. I guess the globalist socialist / Hollywood Complex have another female candidate in mind for the next election. Just missing the red flag at the end of the credits. — Divemonsta
Just a bunch of random Hollywood crap strung together for 2 hours of my life that I will never get back. It got praised for being such a “different” movie but let me remind you that different is not always the same as better. — Sargeerk
Shiet. What a disappointment. I would be more specific and eloquent, but other reviewers have already done such a good job as to make any effort as unnecessary as this movie. — 'dude'
Grinding Nemo (B+)
Guillermo Del Toro focused to much on throwing little virtue signals in this movie. A mute woman is helped by a communist, a gay guy, a black lady to save a south american sea man from an evil massonganistic, racist white man...... its a little on the nose. This left much to be desired like more scenes of the girl interacting with the fish man in the lab which in the movie felt sped up and glossed over and maybe 15-20 min dedicated to how the fish dude was caught. ANYWAY if you don't mind inter-species sexual intercourse then like me you will give this movie a B+ — evan11paul
It's so much more than fish porn...
You'll never look at your goldfish the same way again. This movie was so amazing, I became a lesbian and dyed my hair blue, and I'm a man! Hollywood just knows best. Thank you again, Hollywood, for teaching the rest of us that there are no walls underwater. — zidane2015
Absolute, ridiculous, pc infested, morally bankrupt garbage — The Rhythmist
Appalling, gratuitously graphic cat cruelty
Don't buy this if you're an animal lover. After the pointlessly graphic terminal cat violence scene I immediately deleted this movie from my iTunes. It is appalling. Why is animal violence acceptable because it's pseudo'art'? I was really looking forward to the release of this movie after the Oscars hype. Complete waste of $15 — SweetPeaPod1000
Love Guillermo De Toro!! ❤️❤️❤️
Favorite director.. I love all of his movies and this one did not disappoint for one second. I find it funny with all the plagiarism accusations hilarious. All I can say is apples and oranges. They are both fruit but completely different colors, textures and tastes. Haters gonna hate. Can’t express enough how much I love this movie... keep em coming!!! ❤️❤️ — Travisbrian85

This movie amounts to moral insanity. — ohyoukno
I love Guillermo's stuff. This movie had the same beautiful cinematography. The acting was well performed but the content was a bit much. It kinda testifies to our societies idea that if you love something you should have sex with it and she certainly gets it on with the creature... I didn't finish the story as the beatiality? Picephilia? Not sure what to call it, but it was too much. If you opt to watch, ask if it's worth desensitizing your values to watch. — Gethys
A charming film that never fails to fill me with joy
I'm not sure I've anything interesting to say about The Shape of Water, but I'll throw my hat in the ring as one of those who fell completely in love with it. And that's what you do with this film, you love it despite its problems, because it is, as they say, a flawed masterpiece. Its characters and its story are incredibly simple, but they are clear and well defined. It turns to clichés at times, but it elevates them beyond their surface level. However, what The Shape of Water really does perfectly, is the atmosphere. It completely engulfed me and left me wanting to return to its world as soon as I possibly could. It is, as my friend Jackson pointed out, a dream. It did what any good fantasy story should do: it made me believe in something impossible and lose myself in my own imagination. Sure, all the technical stuff is great (the music and production design especially), but what I find most interesting, is that the film gave to me, as a viewer, the very feeling that it describes in its final moments. Surrounded completely. — CWFMAN
Absolutely Delighted & Terrified!
Jolie Lives-3/6/18 I’ve just seen the previews and am so happy that Guillermo del Torro has finally gone back into his mysterious, Cinematic Laboratory and concocted a new, magical, visual, visceral experience, I mean, Movie! Most Directors supply their audience’s with a vast arrays of Movies. Some should remain on the Editing Room’s Floor, while others retain the capacity to still surprise and delight. Occasionally, we are Gifted with a few truly great, “Feel Good” Movies. Sadly, the numbers of, “Really Wonderful” Movies run on tracks too similar to those of a roller coaster’s. Whereas, finding a new, truly exceptional Movie, seems to be comparable to Truffle Hunting, rather then being a Walk In The Park. While the Best Movies, have made us laugh, while we cry, or caused us to laugh, when we honestly believed that we’d never smile again. Sometimes Movies can even make us think about situations or cause us to re-evaluate ourselves or our Life’s. While many Movies have the ability to evoke many emotions, none of them allow us to feel like we’re an exquisite fly on the wall. Quietly and closely watching, provocatively magical, though thoroughly visceral, Eros, nay Agape, unfold. One or his primary gift’s is that he always finds ways, to make us see and even feel, aspects and deep seated emotions, that all human’s have. Whether we want to acknowledge that we experience or even acknowledge these feelings or not. Thereby, even in some of his more disturbing characters, be they human or mythological, we find ourselves squirming in our seats. Squirming, as we find ourselves fighting with ourselves, in useless attempts, trying our hardest, to deny even the most teeny, tiny realisations of recognition. Fighting with our own truth or integrity, that we actually do understand the feelings, of one of the most repugnant characters, during some part of the scene we’re watching unfold. The feeling is more than uncomfortable, it’s frequently unnerving and always unsettling. Once your heart begins to slow down again, you find yourself drawn into another character’s dream in his Movies. I have since read that he doesn’t spend much energy on character development in this Movie. I imagine that it’s probably due to the nature of this Movie. In this Movie, I imagine that it’s going to be very easy somehow, to identify with the woman and the hidden, Fish man Character, as they kiss, while floating, under the surface of the water. Especially as many of us, have shared a kiss like this, with someone who meant a lot to us, at some point in our lives. If not yet, then it’s truly something for you to look forward to. He’s a Magician and a Tormenter, as he seemingly, effortlessly, weaves the threads of his individual characters, into achingly exquisite Images. Each, character results in an individual Tapestry, of an all encompassing moment, in Life. — Jolie Lives
Just AWFUL!! 💩💩💩
This movie was terrible, I didn’t understand why the director made this movie so vulgar and inappropriate but it was not a pleasing movie to watch. Way to much nasty homosexual references and beastiality love scenes. The agent puts down woman in terrible ways, there were so many scenes where I felt like it was unnecessary to the film. I don’t understand why it won 4 Oscars it shouldn’t even be a movie, this is more like a porno. It never should have made it to the big screens. Never ever will I see a movie made by this director again, he is a major sicko and should be put into a hospital and tested for mental issues. — MonsterLB

This movie is really good, powerful and strong at the same time! The movie shows us how different we all are as human beings. It hurts to know that people of lesbian or gay, color of skin and even people with disabilities like Giles, Zelda, and Elisa can be harshly mistreated because we aren’t the same as everyone else. The movie sends us a message that no matter what you are like, you are human like everyone else. I give the movie 5 stars and very happy that it won 4 Oscars last night!! However some of the scenes(Elisa masturbating in the tub, Strickland having sex with his wife, and the creature eating the cat) was pretty disturbing. Yeah it’s the way of life I know but I cringed at those scenes that I either looked away or turned the volume down until that scene is over. For those scenes I give the movie 4 stars. Other than that, Guillermo Del Toro did a fantastic job on the movie!! 😊 — Mermaidgirl07
