WAR is Bad
★★★★
Woody Harrelson acting with his usual flair, and the few moments of superb action, were not enough to save this movie. The movie tugs along slowly and painfully, for over two hours. The movie is filled with crony sentimentality, and its attempts at humor, thankfully infrequently, have largely failed. I, as a fan of the Plant of the Apes series, was disappointed. — ATMMD

Masterful!!!
★★★★★
First off, this film was incredible. Visuals, acting, music, directing and cinematography, were done beautifully. Matt Reeves gives the film a post-apocalyptic worn down tone, adding to Woody Harrolsons and Andy Serkis’ believable, pain filled performances. Steve Zhans ape provided much needed comic relief, while Nova’s speechless state was filled with emotion and understanding. Weta Digital’s groundbreaking CGI truly captured the emotion of the actors playing apes. There were funny parts, sweet parts, clever parts, definitely sad parts, and the movie as a whole played out beautifully. SPOILER ALERT But I will say this... For a majority of the film, the apes are just cooped up in the cages that the evil colonial put them in, and it felt a bit slow at times. I would have liked a little more time with Woody Harrolsons character to fully understand him especially when he caught the new version of the Simain Flu. But that’s all. Great Movie — I like Dino's

Great movie
★★★★
Being the great movie it is, the ending, in my opinion, could have been bigger. It felt like a lot of build up but all that tension wasn’t released at the end, except for the last scene of the movie. Great movie though and definitely recommend watching. — jamessthebeast

I was surprised about the Oscar discussion for digital characters BEFORE seeing the film. Not anymore. Still... not the best for me, that is the first, because characters are sometimes inconsistent, both 🚶and 🦍 and the quality of animation is awesome but not surprising like before — juemi2

Mediocre
★★★★★
Not much else to say. Better than the previous sequel. “Bad Ape” character was great, the one redeeming quality. Ending was dumb. Didn’t add anything to the film to have Caesar die unceremoniously off to the side right after the apes found a new home. Dumb dumbs dumb. — pmzdj

Actually, if you haven't seen any of these - watch the entire trilogy in order. My son and I watched the first two the two days prior to going to see this one. Great weekend and great trilogy. Fantastic films, all 3 of them. — Pelican33

A Cinematic Achievement
★★★★★
Perfect direction and cinematography, every shot counts and advances the story. Groundbreaking special effects and motion capture, seriously, these apes look real, it's kind of eerie. An oscar worthy performance from Andy Serkis (give this man what he deserves). A chilling score by Michael Giacchino. To top it all off, the screenplay is hard-hitting, relevant, and a perfect send off to one of the best trilogy's in cinematic history. If you watch movies, you owe yourself to see this film, it's required viewing, and I believe is one of the greatest films of the 21st century. — edge jam

Purposeful
★★★★★
The movie follows a very precise story-line from beginning to end. A lot of meticulous computer graphics were utilized for lots of characters for most of the film. There are some one-of-a-kind landscape shots adding an extra touch of creativity. Parts of the movie containing music compliment action sequences and emotion appropriately. There aren’t a lot of ape main characters in this one, but their personalities are amazing and consistent as an element of the motion picture. — RutSMFox13

Very well-done disappointment
★★★★★
I am utterly shocked to see that this movie has received a 93% on rotten tomatoes. I usually agree with their ratings. This movie lacked a plot. Awesome cinematography; awesome CG; awesome soundtrack; great acting--but still, it had virtually no plot. I loved the first two moves, Rise and Dawn, but I do not think I will watch this one a second time. It felt like nothing more than a pure set-up movie to answer the question, "How did Charlton Heston's planet happen?" Question--do "five star" folks no the difference between a great soundtrack and a great story? It was an extremely well-made, plotless mash of poorly-understood borrowed ideas. Even with hints of great characters like Jean Val-Jean and Javert (compare against the final scene with Ceasar and the Colonel), it was still a convoluted quilt with squares that did not fit together. Very well-done; yet without a plot, as compared to the previous two, it was very disappointing. — DrChisB

Dissapointing. Hopefully the final entry in the otherwise great series.
★★★★★
Compared to the first two installments of this series, "War for the Planet of the Apes" was very underwhelming. Apart from lacking characters and injecting unecessary comedic relief in the form of a character that is very much resembling Jar Jar Binks, this movie did not accomplish anything at the scale that the previous two did. The acting was great, and the cinematography is spectacular, I just wish that there would be an interesting story to go along with such great attributes. It is not a despisable movie, but I don't think it holds up to what the critics made it out to be (more like a 80 - 85%, rather than an astonishing and overhyped 94% Rotten Tomatoes). — carlcast97

Wow! I was psyched to see this movie because I loved the first two. This had to be the slowest film I've ever seen! I finally couldn't take the pain snd I left about 40 minutes to the end. I haven't walked out of a movie theater since Battlefeild Earth. Absolutely Dreadful! I was so sure it was going to be desimated by the critics...but they all loved it! I was shocked. — HCBigvision

Extremely disappointing
★★★★
I've enjoyed the original series, the TV show and the first two in the recent 2011-2014 series. Not the Tim Burton movie, though. That said, characters do not behave with consistency even on their own terms. For example, Caesar doubts himself in a way that's pasted and half-formed and he acts against his character's entire ethos toward the end of the movie. There's not a single reference to his childhood and the mythology of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie. Actions are implausible, especially at the slave camp where humans are regimented one minute and derelict in their guarding the next. Every plot point is predictable. The score is overbearing. This is not a good film. — Scoop10
