King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Action & Adventure • PG-13 • Directed by: Guy Ritchie • 126 minutes

Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.

One of the best
★★★★★
This is one of the best movie.. guy Ritchie is awesome. He reminds me of Francis Coppola’s directing. Great editing and music scoring. The story has underlining meaning and I love the revelation in it! Amazing story! It deserves an award 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 — Joahnes

Rotten Tomatoes Knows Crap! Great Movie!
★★★★★
Great movie! That’s another great movie that got unjustifiably low rating by rotten tomatoes. I guess that’s why they are called rotten, because of the quality of their reviews... — Lyon4ik

Critics are too critical
★★★★
This is an awesome retelling. They say it takes away the the heart of an age old tale. Tales, are meant to be told, by different people and different perspectives. It’s the retelling that makes it’s a wonderful tale. If you came to see a remake of Excalibur, then go watch Excalibur. I love how they cast Arthur as a scrappy kid who is more interested in a non-violent resolution. Using his brains more than his braun. The only reason this movie didn’t do so well at the box office was critic review. Look at most of the marvel movies, almost everyone of them are poorly written but still crush at the box office. Compare Thor, with Thor Darkworld and Thor Ragnorak. The second film is a joke. All I’m saying is the critical review didn’t give this movie a fair shake as has been given other movies that probably didn’t deserve it. — bshreeves

Great movie, forget the critics
★★★★★
The directors fast-paced approach DID work. Not every single King Arthur rendition has to be exactly the same. To me, the storytelling was not at all harmed by the fast pace. Great characters, great take. It was also set up well for the sequel. — H2O Forest

Loved it!! The acting was beautiful and the plot was good!! — Nothappypanda

Yes.
★★★★★
This movie takes risks. From its witty, fast paced everything to its percussive non-traditional soundtrack to its unique filming.. It kills it. The plot is pretty average for an Arthur style legend movie, but everything about it is brought to life by the characters, acting, dialogue, soundtrack, etc. If you're looking for something funny, fast paced, and adrenaline pumping, this movie will deliver again and again.. because you're going to want to watch it more than once. — Ben Fanderclai

Don't let critics stop you from enjoying this masterpiece
★★★★★
Incredible movie. The characters, the costuming, the effects, the refreshing treatment of a classic plot, excellent toggling between humorous and serious. Excellent soundtrack too. I loved this movie and will watch again soon. Also, with this movie I am finally abandoning that movie critic (tomato) site. It would have been such a tragedy if the poor ratings and snobbery there had kept me from seeing this incredible film. — Strikeroot

Smart, Funny, Good Acting - really loved it.
★★★★★
I thouoght this movie was excellent. Quite smart dialog, production quality high and the acting was excellent. The lead action Charlie Hunman was perfect for the role, nice to look at, handled quick dialog really well, integrated action with dialog and it made even more sense. I like they obviously took some risks, for me all was worth watching several times. I like it so much, I bought it to watch over and over again. Nice job, good story, wonderful production. — andrealschneider

I think the critics were wrong
★★★★★
I had zero expectations going into this film. But I have to say that I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. It is a “Guy Richie” film so be prepared for his style, but the action was fantastic, the special effects were top notch and the sound editing was some of the best I’ve heard (minus Star Wars of course). It’s worth a look! — Epatermo

SNATCH meets KING ARTHUR
★★★★★
SERIOUSLY?! If your a fan of Guy Richie...then you will more then likely LOVE this movie. If your not a fan, then keep moving. This is King Arthur on steroids. We put off watching this movie, due to bad ratings. We had been anticipating Richie’s new movie for so long, and did not want to be disappointed. We were not let down for a second! From the first scene, we kept saying...Seriously?! How could any Guy Richie fan hate this movie?! It was classic Richie from the effects to the banter. — The Quata Couple

Why did anyone tell me this was a Guy Ritchie film??
★★★★★
Seriously....Why did anyone tell me this was a Guy Ritchie film?? The previews made it look like King Arthur meets transformers. However it’s so much better than that. Many elements from Lock-Stock and Snatch included here. Great film and dialogue overall, much better than Rotten Tomato rating. — B-Dre

What the HELL is wrong with critics?!
★★★★★
I rarely, if ever, write reviews. Here's what I think & you should too: see those 4 rotten reviews above? They're complete BS. This movie won't be up there with Lord of the Rings, but come on! It's really fun. I'm glad I watched it and liked it so much that I bought it. — ilovesaintpaul

★★★★★
I have no idea how the critics got it sooo wrong. It was one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen. So smartly executed — Sirfman

Missing something ( a lot)
★★★★★
Love Guy Ritchie, but with the exception of one or two scenes the movie felt extremely flat. I’m open to the new tone, but would have been cooler if Jude Law’s character looked human (but with powers) than some demon. Arthur’s journey at some point in the movie felt extremely pointless. The beginning of the film showing Arthur as a young man was pretty drawn out and once again pointless for plot development. A lot of pointless with poor plot development, some cool and emotional scenes (all on Jude Law’s Vortigern side) and some typical Guy Ritchie banter/camera work. — That one Bloke1066

Critics Schmitics! Don't listen to them!
★★★★★
This movie was really good! The critics have lost their sense of imagination and don't allow for room for originality in retellings- since most of what we do now are repeats. If you're hoping this is like the stories of King Arthur, then you may not like this either. However, if you are open to a retelling of King Arthur and have a love of dark fantasies, then this is definitely your movie. — Dreamer12630

Three Stars
★★★★★
It's a film for men in America, that have been trivialized by American culture. It's very inspiring for men, and there aren't many left in America, so this film will get mostly bad ratings. If you are a Man, then the beginning is slow and painful, but if you can accept the feminine, fantasy crap, like most of us can survive to have sex with the hot ones here, then you'll be ok. It isn't a great film in any way, other than special effects, which seems to be the norm nowadays. It's a film for the few, with the special effects to wow the idiots, with a message for the best of us. It's hard to find positive messages in Hollywood nowadays. I hope my review isn't a death sentence for the production crew or cast. — Erik Stone

A critic proof movie that's actually very entertaining and interesting to watch. Never solely go by critic reviews like Rotten Tomatoes. Make sure you always check user reviews and places like IMDB that combine a ton of reviews into a score out of ten. — UnivTennVol06

★★★★★
One of the best new age movies I’ve seen in a long time!!! — gkolowitz

Disapointing
★★★★★
I gave it a two star for the action. The movie was an Illuminati, Mutlicultural cultural travesty that left out a lot of the best parts of what makes the King Arthur Legend so great. When I state it was Illuminati, what I mean is it is full of Occult and Pagan Symbolism while competely ignoring the Christian basis and values of the legends. Gone are knights and honor and chivalry and good values. The main character is a thief and a liar. A thief and a liar like a lot of weirdo occultists. They use symbolism and magic in a particular way that made leaves no room for doubt about what the movie is. Merlin was even a no show in the movie for whatever reason when he is a big part of the story. I grew up really enjoying Legends of King Arthur, and this movie was a major dispointment that leaves out many of the things that made the Legends so great. — Rams63

Fun

Maybe not true to the story BUT GOOD!
★★★★★
Completly entertaining and action packed. I liked the sound track too. — GapToad

Loosely based on the King Arthur legend would have been a more accurate title.
★★★★★
Good acting, nice special effects, but this made me think of 2 rival gangs fighting for power. One to remain in power and the other trying to get vengence for past wrongs. But a story to make you think of the King Arthur legend. The personalities and motivations of the Arthur characters are completely different. I would expect this Arthur to become as tyrannical as the guy he opposes. If Excalibur wasn't in the movie another title would have been more appropriate. — Yochanon the yeti herder

Rotten Idiots :)

Critics are just that and yes they are entitled to their opinion however they just don't know what they don’t know. Which isa good movie when it bites them in the arse. — lancelotk

I don't know why the critics trolled this ,live so hard. I actually really liked. All the characters were superb, the acting was great; really enjoyed it. The real King Arthur stories are all a bit weird anyway. They captured some of that perfectly and were able to make a decent story out of it. — jdh9912

Almost a 5
★★★★
First time I watched it, I thought it was 80% excellent, 20% maddening. Like it had the makings of being super good but fell just short. Second time, I actually liked it more. Some of the dialogue is fast paced story telling. The cinematography was cool in some of the scenes. It's worth the watch for sure, even worth the purchase rather than rent. The soundtrack is good to go as well. Get it. If you liked the cartoon and don't take yourself too seriously, you'll probably like this movie. — joshsteph
