This movies only strong point is Mcavoy's performance. The story is not particularly interesting. But his acting elevates this movie. I was hoping this was going to be the return of M. Night. But I was wrong. — Kingpin65
I couldn't have chosen better actors and actresses for this movie. They were all great! — djbuloc
Good Premise Goes Awry
I liked it, I hated it, liked it, hated it, liked it...and in the end, I hated it. If only they had known when to stop. — Otis4luv
By the ending. Had just watched the related movie and saw the same theme. Three notes into the last scene music, and I knew. Awesome. — M Night Shamalan Guy
Loved it! James McAvoy is excellent!!! The main girl (I forgot her name) is a great actress. I almost teared towards the end. Took one star off because I didn't like some part of the ending regarding McAvoy's last personality. — realhonestgirl
Thrilling the entire time!
I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. James McAvoy is outstanding. I would highly recommend this movie. So many thrilling moments and an awesome story line. — Bakesiee
I thought it was a great movie. It explores the power of the mind and belief in what you can do but you have DB's like tcowan writing reviews based on one aspect of the movie. I hate when people try to ruin good movies based on their own self righteousness. — Ssloane17
Not as good.
I prefer his other movies, like The Village. This was just plain horrible — B&K&C
Extraordinary acting performance, great plot and suspense until the end. Mr Night is back from the Dead. — Shadow Macho

Slow, Predictable, Silly
Typical Shyamalan: slooow and predictable with a silly premise and weak plot. — iPhone User 31666
Waste of life
What's entertaining in watching a mentally ill? Just an excuse to Macavoy acting different roles. I am sad to see so many positive reviews, hope there won't be a sequel. — isfaeg popo
Beautiful Cinematography and a Bad Plot
The attention to detail, balance, color and other elements of composition in the frame are an acheivement, however, the plot is so far from reality it is disturbing. This is a slovenly nerds wet dream, in which the muscular and defined person is a villain who can only acheive their physique through psychosis. In the end, James McAvoy's character is given supernatural powers and turned into an evil of biblical proportions. The day is saved by a fat idiot smoking a cigarette and a security guard, albeit these types of people stumbling onto sinister plots does happen in life, they are not heroes. The film even suggests that people can change their body chemistry by will and not the introduction of a new diet or medicine. This dangerous idea along with others presented in the film may lead some people to act out anti-social dillusions. — Alex Dalton
A money well spent
I actually enjoyed this movie and James McAvoy did an awesome job. I love how this movie can also gave people an idea of what DID/MPD is cause it is a very interesting disorder. A money well spent indeed. — scvarona
M. Night is back, finally
As a huge fan of this earlier films, from 6th sense to The Happening, I was delighted to watch M. Night's signature style for which he's become so well known for. Easility recognizabe storytelling wtih a hint of something supernatural at play and a big reveal to come this was an excellent movie to enjoy. McAvoy is superb, as usual and absolutly nailed his part(s). Can't wait for the Glass now! — Kozerovsky
its not that interestiing — Mike0128012
Wow, what a ride!
James McAvoy performance is brilliant, I have know idea how he wrapped his head around the many personalities of his character. I would compare his performance with Dustin Hoffman role in RAIN MAN. Shyamaian delivers (redeaming some of his flops). — Michael Tennes
Great movie! James McAvoy was amazing! — vbyford78
LOVE THIS FREAKIN MOVIE!!!!! — Cleo4ever
The ending had such a twist! — Meetingmygoals

It was ok
Movie was on average in my opinion, I wouldn't necessarily watch it again. So essentially he can turn into the Incredible Hulk if he thinks it. I guess .... — mikie
This Movie Was The Best Movie I Have Seen . Mr. James Honestly Deserves Many Many Awards . He Was Fantastic 💯 — Naaaekeeee
Tired of the old ideas being played out over and over? This movie is great, its smart, and keeps you guessing! I have had to watch it a few times because once you get to the end a lot makes sense and you want to rewatch it knowing "what you know now." Money and time well spent. — krewellah
This movie was not only bad for the portrayal of character but leads the audience to believe or assume that such person with DID or "Split Personality Disorder" is in fact crazy, dangerous to the self or others. Also did not care for this movie in that I feel as though they did not put background in the other girls lives or even give a thorough background to ANY of them but instead have the audience assume a horrific background. When I did see this movie, the people around me did make me realize that the main character could have escaped plenty of times. Now we all might think that Yes, a young woman in this situation might be frightened or stunned but as shown in their "deep" background, she was skilled in hunting, observant s'y, high intelligence and showed signs of capability to use a gun. Such skills should have enhanced her skills and probability to escape under this circumstance. Or even kill him which she attempted plenty of times, EVEN with a shotgun and STILL failed! Another thing is, the ending was very controversial from whether it was him or not or was that the future or what was going on. A lot of parts were very confusing. Seeing the trailer wanted me to see it badly but now after seeing it, I am so disappointed. — JAS51503
Good psychologocal thriller. McAvoy and Anya do their usual good work. Some dark sexual undertones but it doesn't go overboard. NOT a movie for youmg kids. If you like dark and intense, you'll enjoy Split. Interesting final scene but I won't spoil it here. 3.75 out of 5. — Ugotta_B_Kidding
it's worth it!
i 10/10 recommend this movie if you love thriller movies!! — @AmberBeam1
So good. You're on the edge of your seat the entire movie. — HighPointClass
Sadly, the big weakness of this movie is James McAvoy. He's a very good actor, but this movie tested -- and went beyond his skills. He looks like he's performing in "Split" -- even looking like he's in an acting class, projecting different personalities. It may be an odd comparison at first glance, but his many scenes can be compared to Brando in "Apocalypse Now," with the focus directly on him and how he emotes. And McAvoy just comes up short. For me, he just didn't hold my interest. I could see him acting, which took me out of the film. And then there's the loose end of the one heroine's story. Very odd back story pertaining to her, that has no closure. Quite dissatisfying. Now, one may argue that her story is realistic, but that realism is incongruent with the main story. It's a side story that just doesn't fit. Disappointed. With all that being said, if you find McAvoy fun/intriguing to watch, you may love the movie. It relies almost completely on his performance. !!BIG SPOILER!! As the story played out, and knowing that twists are Shyamalan are his signature move, I thought we'd see that the villain was a certain character's son from a previous Shyamalan film. But that was not the case. — D Noble
A great imperfect thrill ride. McAvoy does an amazing job but it's the ending that really ties the movie all together. Overlook the flaws and enjoy the experience. — The Cyborganizer
I don't normally go for thrillers but after reading the reviews it sounded like it might have substance. In fact it is just a cheap way of getting some people to view pretty young girls in situations where there is a threat they might get molested. Sick. — trexmiller
Worth every penny
Unique, original, definite thriller — Nick2928181
Worth renting. I would definitley recommend it. — ccherry24
Good, not great.
Saw this in theaters. Not overly impressed. I wish M. Night would return to visionary movies like Signs and Sixth Sense. Give us twists like that. — Anonymous Person!
Edge of seat 💺!
This director is back in full swing! This is a 5+ star ⭐️ movie. Kudos to the great acting here. This character could have been a joke BUT instead very believable- too much so lol. The cameo of Bruce Willis perfect placement. I do like the ending as is much better than the alternate. Definitely a must see. FYI- saw this at a friends house where she paid $7.99 for the rental. iTunes is a far better deal ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😷. The masks for a reason 😉🎥👻 — Gamer holdem
Great surprise - not a twist - at the end!
Overall I found this to be M. Night Shyamalan's best effort since Signs (of those I've seen at least). McAvoy is a great talent and his role was a terrific opportunity which shows his range as an actor. The film's premise is a creepy one, as I can imagine the difficulty the abductees had when first discovering their abductor's various personalities - his instability could make him extremely dangerous, but might it also be used to the young womens' advantage? The mystery of the whole story hinges on whether the details emerging about the 24th personality are true, so viewers should not be surprised by the answer either way. But once we have that answer, juxtapose it with the final scene of the film and ask yourself whether the answer is consistent with the theme of the story it references. I'd say very much so. Enjoy! — Pirate Lawyer
So creepy! Loved it!
James McAvoy is brilliant! If you like creepy nail-biters, this movie is for you! — Mamalizz
James McAvoy really made a quantum leap in his known acting skills. He has been playing Professor X for a long time and it's clear that he needed to find a great story and be brilliant. The dark and disturbing undertones makes this not a PG-13 movie for most people. This story stops just before breaking the lines and showing the unseen. I have always liked M. Night. He has been in a bit of a slump; but he set a very high bar with his many memorable movies where he wrote and directed everything. The combination of a very bizarre story and finding the perfect actor has created a unique style of entertainment where you may find yourself watching this pretty harsh movie just to see some next level acting and lingering interest. 'He is on the move!!!' Etc.... — majorthomas
