Look, this and any star wars film has a lot riding in it, but it should. This film looks like a video with an "old filter" on it, not a film. The story is a mess, and the characters and their motivation is a mess. Some characters seem like they were major but cut down, others seem stretched way too far. There needed to be way more here especially when we know how it ends. A rental at best. — the_fish_
Star Wars: Where are they now?
At this point, if you've seen one Star Wars you've seen them all. Maybe Steven Spielberg should take a shot at it. — Adderall Diaries
Best Star Wars yet
It is even better than empire — 172828818191929
Tedious and predictable. Poor character development. Much of the acting seemed as if the cast was trying to overcome a bad plot. There were some very good battle scenes and the effects were great, but that wasn't enough to salvage it. Rent it, or just borrow it from a friend who had the misfortune of buying it. It's the worst of all the Star Wars movies. — Ugotta_B_Kidding
I always wanted to know how they got the plans for the deathstar since i was a child when i first saw this movie in 1977 now i know great movie!!!!!! — balance of judgement
I hated this. Visuals were nice but the story and characters fell flat for me. Still love Star Wars but this was just long and drawn out and just flat out boring to me. It's sad when I kept looking to see how much more of this movie I had left to watch. — Ash31

I was surprised that this movie was extremely boring. — Furian2020
3 day rental. Tried to watch twice, fell asleep twice. Didn't even bother to try again on day 3. Scenes I can remember were murky like that last Godzilla disaster of a movie. Maybe the best part was in the last 10 minutes but I never made it. — The Kramerstein
It's my Second favorite Star Wars movie 🎥 — Trashboat32
Clearly I am in the minority. Howver, I could not wait for this movie to end. Acting bad. Script bad. Casting bad. special effects...same old thing. Even the score for the movie was cliche. — Radd123
Super exiting and awsome — coolrexy360
Fill In The Blanks
Inbetween plot with some really great speical effects and some really bad acting. Donnie Yen is the only character with any interesting characteristics in this one off of the Star Wars franchise. The digital characters of the old movies come off creepy and unreal and the new characters are still and uninteresting. Unforgetable in every sense. — Frank C 66554321.
Open Range meets IP Man in a galaxy far away.....
I would have rather watched a "Wookie Christmas special". Story line was all over the place. Broke the Star Wars tradition with the start of the movie. So much for movie marathons with this "In-betweener". Hopefully the have a Kenobi or Mandalorian/Bobba Fett side movie to make it up to the fans. — Sunburnt07
Took Star Wars and tried to use all the good stuff. Awful casting and writing. Lead male and female were horribly cast and written. Couldnt finish it despite multiple tries. Jyn may be worse than Jar Jar. — Lord of the Jews
So Totally Awesome
Saw this in the theater and it went well beyond expectation in content, visuals, screenplay and performance. An incredibly well thought out story that fits so well with the Star Wars saga. You will see when you watch it. The last 30 minutes are hang onto your seat action that blows Empire Strikes Back totally out of the water. And the last 5 minutes you will absolutely love and want to applaud. There was one small moment of some CGI in the movie that could have been done a lot better, but you won't really care! Sit back and enjoy the ride! — inspired truth
The Feels man
This movie had me so emotional definitely a must watch 10/10 in my book — Mcnuggies718
There was no reason to make this movie. It did not add or take away from the original films (definitely didn't add). Donnie Yen's Chirrut Imwe was the only character that belonged in that world. You're not rooting for Felicity Jones's character because they don't develop it enough for you to care. And frankly I was holding my breath at the end hoping the Death Star blast did destroy them all... (sorry).... and the CGI Princess Leia was totally unnecessary. — aubergine20
It's okay, but definitely not a Star Wars' "Great"
It's an interesting side-story that provide insight into the beginnings of "Star Wars" (i.e., what's now referred to as Eps. 4 "New Hope"). But for those that grew up where that was "the first" it fails to bring much in the way of "needed information" or expanding the story (meaningfully). — JCarver.Auburn
Without question THE BEST START WARS EVER!!!!!
Outlier stories are what genuinely makes star wars great & Rogue One is the ultimate in outlier stories. A genuine #MUSTSEE #MUSTOWN #MUSTENJOY!!!! #SheCritiquesIt — SheCritiquesIt
Ties the movies together so well!
When I first saw A New Hope, i was left wondering why there was a major flaw in the Death Star, especially one that would blow up the whole thing. Furthermore, I wondered why the Sith didn't cover up the hole better. Because of this movie, we now know why! The characters all seemed realistic and were imperfect, which I liked. It had a smooth transition into A New Hope by ending exactly where the movie picked up. Overall, a great movie that will please Star Wars fans and earn the franchise new ones. — 😺😸😻😽😾😹😹🙀🙀😼M
I love the original trilogy and have even learned to tolerate the prequels but this has become my personal favorite. I think that this film has the perfect mix of comedy, action, and heart that makes the ending very powerful. On a side not Alan Tudyk has been one of my favorite actors since I first saw him in 28 Days where he was his usual scene stealing thief and he does it again with K2-SO. This is the best droid so far in Star Wars as his dry humor is so good you see him as a person and not just a robot. Even if you're not Star Wars fan you should still give this a try as it is simply a great movie regardless of what it is connected to. — BPS112000

Boring. Love the franchise, but this one was a big disappointment. — Ummmhhhuuuu
Love this movie. K-2S0 is super funny. — Qowardlygoose23
The entire series is predictable, unoriginal, shallow, and of one note. So bored. — Imikenyc
I'm disappointed in this Star Wars movie
Every other SW movie awesome, but this one really disappointed me. The plot wasn't that good and they didn't develop the characters and make you care about them. I also didn't like the fact that they had old character have new actors, if the previous actor can't play the roll then just don't have the characters in the movie. Please guys next SW movie you make don't make it like this. — Jdhdjfjdndjd
The acting was often stiff & cheesey. Effects were also lacking. It seems like they rushed to put something without putting enough thought and care into it. The technology depicted often didn't make sense. Something's seemed more advanced which doesn't make sense since this was prior to the other movies. I couldn't wait for this one to end! — Snzzyrdr
This movie is fire just like the rest of the movies🔥 I have always loved the Star Wars movie series. — @JenJen
Very enjoyable — SpacemanAfrica
When I first seen this movie and the title I thought to myself "well they going to ruin Star Wars more!!" But I was really surprised how good this movie was. They had no cuss words and nothing bad that I could find. Yes everyone dies at the end but it showed how the rebels got the Death Star plans. — Call of duty Commandos
It's good because the movies have a lot of action and sifi — God of sky's
Ok but I won't buy the record.
Pretty uninspired stuff here. — North Fork Viewer
Beautifully designed prequel!
I've been a Star Wars fan my entire life, and this movie fit perfectly into the schematic storyline without messing with the saga. It shows how we can still have HOPE on humanity, no Jedi needed. A must have! — REHEKU
Dreck - Save your time & money
Looks like it was made using film left on the dutting room floor from the original three movies. Looks like "original screenplay by L. Ron Hubbard". They ONLY part of this movie that made any sense: They kill off all the lead characters (probably to explain why they don't appear in any of the other movies in the series). The best acting job in the movie - the only character I cared about - was the robot. Seriously, the plans for the most advanced weapon in the galaxy are kept on VHS tape? Really? — (jk)
The rogue one of the franchise
A film not afraid to blur the line between fighting for the right and becoming your enemy. Merely minutes into the film, we see our secondary protagonist shoot an unarmed informant. We see Saw Guerrera and his extremism splitting an alliance. We see a woman who's lost everything find something to believe in, a new hope. People complain that this movie isn't Star Wars, but from its witty dialogue, focus on the themes of loss and courage and fantastic third act, this film managed to get Star Wars better than any other prequel to date. Plus, now we can't say stormtroopers never hit their target anymore. — Mikenepo
Very good — Johnny424
Great.......But not the best
They did a good job. I wish they had put some more older characters in the movie though. But my overall rating would be 90% of 100%. Hope this is helpful. — Happygirl#God
Figured it would at least be visually appealing. Which in its defense, it did have some cool visuals. But outside of that the story, characters, plot, all garbage. A standard one size fits all movie that disappoints. Save your money. — Manochs
Shis movies just seemed like a rehash of old tired ideas without bringing anything new or interesting to the table. You have the reluctant heroine who eventually is convinced of the importance of battle, the close calls, the heroine's mission, the quirky side-kick robots, blah, blah, blah. Acting and plot are dulls-ville. A film only fans who aren't asking for anything fresh could love. — m--lo
While it was worth watching, I found myself bored throughout most of the movie. In the end, felt disappointed. — Kris_goku
These reviews can't be real
These reviews are not real. There are so many 5 star reviews. This movie is totally bad. Without question. I bought this and wish i didn't. Stunned that Disney put this out. I'm sure they paid to have the reviews rigged cause this movie was totally horrible. The plot was convoluted, but could of been told in 15 minutes rather than two hours plus. The characters were forgetful. Boring & not developed very well. Darth Vader looks like he got his suit from the halloween store, & what's with the puns? Darth Vader is not witty. & the cgI Leia??? Stunned. Can't believe it. — Lincolndookieslumbers
Load O' Crap!!!
I can't believe that nothing that has come out of this franchise since Empire Strikes Back has been worth watching. Serious dreck. Nothing to see here, keep on moving. :-/ — What the duh
2nd Best Star Wars Movie Ever!!!
If you Love the Original Then you will Love this!!! Great Story Great action and characters from the past. As someone else said in their review This is Star Wars!! — Floyd787
This is Star Wars as it should be .. Perfect — Dragon77989789
I have no clue why so many people like movie, I thought it sucked. Not one of the charictors were interesting (besides the whole 3 mins of Darth Vador footage). This movie was just plain awful. — Fireace08

This is what there is
IF you feel like watching a Star Wars movie, this is what there is. Mostly uninteresting characters, terrible story-telling (one ridiculous contrivance after another to stretch a super simple story are thin as possible). Special effects are straight ouf of 1980. With the exception of the CGI actor-bots --one Peter Cushing and one Carrie Fisher. The Cushing bot lasts a few minutes very nicely, then slips into uncanny valley. The Fisher bot is all uncanny valley Looks like a talking doll. I watched it because I have a hard time finding movies with Donnie Yen in them. He gets a lot of screen time but his character is kind a combo of junior Obiwan with Mr. Miyagi. A waste. The actor playing Darth Vader's body is totally wrong --no gravitas at all. Looks like he praciticing for Dancing with the Stars. It is not a complete waste of time if you really like Star Wars. But you won't think it is a good movie. — predmon
