Beautiful, one of my favorites
★★★★★
Passengers has received, in my opinion, unfair bias. Critics took an element of the movie too far, and as a result the box office sales of this movie took a hit. Spoiler alert: This movie is not about a woman's inability to say no. It is a stretch to think otherwise. I'm saying this as a woman, I believe the feminist movement took this movie to an inappropriate level. The main character, played by Jennifer Lawrence, does have choices. In fact the movie is about just that, the choices we make. Anyone who does not see that is not listening carefully to the dialog and is not grasping the true meaning of the film. In short, watch the film, beautiful performances, beautifully written. — B&K&C

Disturbing
★★★★★
It starts off with promise. When the main character wakes up early due to a computer glitch, you wonder, ok, what's he going to do? How is he going to handle this? Then the disturbing part comes and you understand exactly what he is about to do! I found it disturbing. His lovable sad face shouldn't take away from the fact that he is a villain. I wish the story had ended with her getting some kind of justice instead of settling for her fate, ending up with her captor because she couldn't survive on her own (which she admits when trying to save his life at one point)... Sad. — aubergine20

Good movie
★★★★★
I enjoyed the movie and would gladly purchase it, but not for $19.99. The movie is definitely worth a rent, but $9.99 would be the max I'd purchase it for. Good movie for a date night. — LSUtigerfan504

A very moving tale
★★★★
An excellent movie with a great storyline and interesting plot twists. Really makes you think a lot about your own life and how you're living it. The only part they dropped the ball on was by ***not showing enough*** at the end of the movie. They could've shown more of the spaceship's interior, more photographs and portraits, and even the new planet. That's why I give this film 4 stars instead of 5. As for the movie critics, they tend to be right half the time and wrong half the time, which renders their analysis completely and utterly useless -- much like flipping a coin. And they certainly were wrong about this film. — DiscoProJoe

Good Romantic Movie
★★★★★
Simple and romantic movie about what happens when people need each other and seek a life with the person they fall for.... with a space twist of course. 👍❤️ — SwankPeRFection

Enjoyable
★★★★
For thoses who enjoy well made ScFi movies this meets the standards on every level, with great effects and realistic sets. Its plot swings between the travelling to a far off planet and one passenger who is awaken early during the 120 year voyage and the mid way disasters that unfold in to a beautiful love story, I wouldnt worry about the negative comments, its a good movie and worth renting, but prehaps not buying, even thought I did..... — onogeo

Forget the Tomatoes

This is a great movie with a very good message. Very enjoyable film. — Indyjoel

31% Rotten Tomatoes, 75% viewer reviews
★★★★★
The truth is someone in between. It's not as bad as the critics make it sound nor is it worthy of 5 stars. The plot isn't horrible but there were definitely some wasted opportunities. There was a nice setup to explore much more deeply the ideas of loneliness and the necessity of interacting with others to keep one healthy and sane. The writers did the minimum amount to get their idea across but didn't really dig much further. Personally, I think Chris Pratt is watchable in just about anything and while I'm not a huge fan of Jennifer Lawrance, I think she did a fine job and was very believable in her role. If it had been any other actors, it would proably rate 2.5 stars, but these two elevate it to 3.5. — pushingtin25

85% fresh
★★★★
This movie should be 80-85% fresh on rotten tomatoes! Great cast, captivating visuals, and a perfectly executed love story. As a Sci-Fi movie it the plot had more potential to be thought provoking and explorative, but by no means a train wreck. You will thoroughly enjoy yourself watching this film!! — Mut Tulow

Moved Me
★★★★★
At first I thought it was going to be a lame space movie, but it turned out to be a great epic love story that moved me to my core. It dealt with some serious ethics questions and it had some action in it that had me at the edge of my seat for a bit. I loved this movie. Rotten tomatoes be damned. — dj_in_da_house

Forget the critics:..
★★★★★
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. With such a simplistic cast & story premise, the (almost) two-hour movie goes by so quickly & is enjoyable throughout. A great movie you're sure to enjoy — JCarver.Auburn

I thought the story was pretty weak, not very good writing. If it weren't for Chris Pratt, I would have given this two stars. — Rambo8649

The Truth
★★★★★
This movie is great. Highly recommend, it's futuristic and funny a lot of the times. It does take you onto a journey and you'll go back once you're done to find the things that you didn't see the first time, making the whole story a lot less confusing. Again, highly recommended although Rotten Tomatoes doesn't think so.. watch it for yourself! That bartender will be the best! — MellowCraft

One of the best movies i have ever seen in my life, It's all about life, love, future, happiness, it made me cry at some scenes because of hard decisions , I don't understand critics you should watch and find out the message and purpose of movie by yourself. Remember you don't need to live with your past, And don't need to live with dreams of future, You can Live Now! Any Time. — Sam Dario

Never rely solely on critic reviews!
★★★★★
Never rely solely on critic's reviews. Critics can be great at reviewing more intricate thought provoking drama driven indie films, but no system is perfect. That's why I always check both critic reviews and user reviews before turning down, renting, or buying a movie. Passengers was a movie I had low expectations for and came out really enjoying the experience from Chris Pratt's character's point of view. It raised difficult questions and decisions that were relatable to our present and future space endeavors. I love sci-fi and I love Chris Pratt....While this is not a mind blowing amazing movie, it is still a sweet little gem hiding within the rough of bad critic scores. — UnivTennVol06

Critics got this one wrong
★★★★★
I genuinely don't know why Passengers was panned by critics. I liked it so much I watched it four times in a 24-hour period. Pratt and Lawrence sold me on their on screen chemistry, Jennifer Lawrence in particular deserves an award. It has an interesting plot, the special effects are great, and it's actually become one of my favorites. — Jeff Seamons

Great Effects, Weak, Predictable Story
★★★★★
We actually saw this in the theater. The design of the ship and the effects are great but otherwise, the premise was weakly executed. Highly predictable and downright annoying in multiple parts. Watch it for the effects but don't expect much else. Should have ended in a murder followed by madness based on what transpired. THAT could have been interesting. — CJTraveler

Rotten Tomatoes Got It Wrong
★★★★
This movie is so much better than Rotten Tomatoes' 31% rating. It's thoroughly enjoyable, and not at all dull. Not exceptionally fantastic, but a good movie and worth renting. — bagne

Awful and very boring
★★★★
I am a long time fan of sci fi and fantasy stories. However, my wife and I will never get back the time this movie took to play. It is slower moving than a national geaographic documentary. — Pacific Rim more Rodenberry

Good but not good...
★★★★★
I loved the first hour and a 15 min of this... the love story and the drama were great... cut to the climax of impending doom and the plot moves in a very strange unsatisfying direction that--even for sci-fi--seems unrealistic and choppy. Worth the rental not the purchase I suppose. — tomm-ay

Loved it
★★★★★
Here's the choice. If you like a love story with space as the side, choose this. If you like a space movie in the likes of Alien don't choose this. It's a fantastic movie if you like the first choice. — Blackatmis

Dumbest movie I've ever seen
★★★★
The first half is okay. The last half is pure crap. B-rate plot. I want those minutes of my life back I wasted watching this stupid mindless film. — star_dot_star

Wonderful movie
★★★★★
I’ve never written a movie review before. But this movie deserves it. As so often, Rotten Tomatoes ratings only apply if you are looking for a work of art rather than want to watch a movie for entertainment. If you’re looking for a solid, well-entertaining movie that also touches your heart, this is it. This is not to say that this movie isn’t a work of art—it is (the cinematography alone is beautiful and stunning). But it’s primarily a wonderful and entertaining story, following the classic “Hero’s Journey”: call to adventure, ordeal, and resolution. Knowing that this movie has a resolution (I won’t say how—you’ll be surprised) does in no way make it any less interesting. I enjoyed it a lot—thank you to all who made it happen. — world@peace

Liked it a lot!

Human being: socialism, afraid of being alone, need to be loved, fighting for life& creator all of'em in this movie. — Honeyjomei

Boring
★★★★★
Had to fast forward to complete this movie. Towards end has some PlayStation/Xbox video game-like action scenes. But ultimately the finale is not worth the painfully slow and dull dialogue and very obvious plot that thinner than stretched pasta. Two stars because it has Laurence as the hottie many dudes wish they were trapped alone with. — DaLocoGuy

It was great. Jennifer Lawrence ❤️❤️💕
★★★★★
I really liked this movie. My genre is sci-fi, action etc. I will buy this when it goes on sale. I've watched it 5 times already. — ixworks

An almost perfect movie
★★★★
The acting, music and visual effects were outstanding but the movie has one problem that really shakes it: The Chris Pratt character who woke up Jennifer Lawrence. It made the movie more evil and it would've been better if she woke up herself. Good movie but needed a bit more — Shrnskekd

Romance dressed up as sci-fi
★★★★★
If you are in the mood for a romance that plays out on a spaceship then this is the film for you. I rented it hoping for an interesting sci-fi storyline and it fell short. Sure the underlying theme has a sci-fi feel but the plot is a predictable romance. With the appropriate expectations, you may enjoy it more than I did. — MabelMylo

rotten tomatoes is very wrong.
★★★★★
Although the movie is slightly sappy and very romance based, its moral provocations are very intact, and very compelling. With the addition of romance, the movie becomes both morally and romantically challenging to the person watching. I give it a 5 stars. One of my favorite movies, not just of the year, but of all time. — dyspence

THE WORST MOVIE EVER
★★★★
I don't typically listen to critic reviews, but dear god were they right on this one. This movie was awful!! Maybe those who gave it five stars were easily swayed by the visual effects and overlooked the fact that there was no storyline. Please, don't waste your life watching this movie. Those who left good reviews are evil people who are trying to deceive you into disappointment! Save yourselves money and more importantly time! — PogiLuna

Everything about this movie is great, you'll enjoy every second of it if you can adopt the love story to the environment that the movie is happening and accept it. Everything I wanted in a sci-fi
★★★★★
I really enjoyed all of this movie. The ship. The beautiful space. The crew, the cast. It was much more than the bs I heard about it just being a "date night" for Pratt and Lawrence, who are great together, go figure. It almost makes me want to go to Mars with Musk, I'm holding out for Saturn though. — worldsapart7
