Love the spin off of Harry Potter!!! Great movie 😁😁😁 — Caramagurkjackson
This movie is trying to tell 2 stories at once. The first story is about this Lewis Scemander who has a briefcase full of wonderful creatures. Some have escaped. So he teams up with a muggle to help capture them all. This is the best part of the movie. Sadly though, this movie comes with a B plot that really brings the whole thing down. There are these anti wizard activists and this weird relationship with the head of the police department and this orphan kid... like, it's REALLY weird. If they would cut that part out of the movie entirely and just focus on the Fantastic Beasts it would be an amazing movie! Nevertheless I think it is worth a watch — Ytsejam58
Absolutely Riveting and Magical! (Beware of Spoilers!)
J.K. Rowling has made her debut onto the silver screen beautifully. This is her first screenplay and it's absolutely amazing! Set in New York City in the 1920's, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them introduces a new, deeper, and darker theme true to that of Harry Potter. Taking place during the First Wizarding War, the basic plot revolves around wizard, Newt Scamander, author of Hogwarts's textbook: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and his case full of magical creatures. When Muggle/No-Maj( the American term for the non-wizard),Jacob Kowalski, finds himself involved with a run in with one of the creatures found in Newt's case; ex-Auror,(basically a magical police officer) Tina Goldstein, takes Mr. Scamander into custody for breaking the Statue to Secrecy for interfering with No-Maj relations. They soon discover that some creatures escaped from Newt's case and that lands Newt in even deeper trouble with the M.AC.U.S.A.(The Magical Congress of the United States of America). When a No-Maj is brutally killed by a mysterious creature, Newt Scamander and Tina Goldstein are blamed for releasing dangerous creatures and sentenced to death. They manage to escape and discover that there is there is something truly, deeply, sinister going on. Even if you are not familiar with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you are sure to enjoy this film. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will transport you to a world filled with magic and mystery! — 123you don't know me
It's a great movie for any Harry Potter fans — pixzal
I loved this movie, it is very upbeat and innocent in the beginning. Towards the end we get the harry Potter feel which is always engaging. — hjutcat
I'm a marvel person who loves captain America but this movie 🎥 was pretty good 😊 to! I loved 💝 it. — ufjkxkghxk
This was awesome! If you are a Harry Potter fan you'll love it! But my boyfriend hasn't seen Harry Potter and still loved the movie! — Sun39999
What a stupid movie
The only thing that could have made this movie any campier and cheeseball is if they had mangaed to work out some muscial bits about how great the fantastic beasts were. — uncaled
...and as another reviewer said: magic is back - and I loved the movie very much. — mocyloux
This is a good addition to the Harry Potter universe but my neighbor has made it a little overrated. Just enjoy the movie for the actors and the story. — cht2015
Loved everything about it!!
It was nice to have another piece of the HP world come back. I've missed it <3. — Olga =^.^=
This movie was better than I expected it to be — Bas232888
modern Hugh Grant?
male English romantic lead, eye lash fluttering level 1000. — riazrizvi
Lack of Decent Characters
Okay, I like Rowling and her novels. But unfortunately this film wreaks with terrible characters, the one who bugs me the most being the female president. *spoilers* First she tries to kill Newt and Tina and destroy all of his work. DESTROY WORK THAT COULD BE USED TO EDUCATE OTHERS! Really, really stupid on her part. And the 2nd thing that bothers me is how she ordered the wizard officers to kill the teen guy. He needed a friend, he was hurting, and as president, what does she do? She kills him! Murders him! Because of fear! She needed to step off her high tower of pride and realize that maybe they should help this kid. Follow Newt and Tina's example. To late though, you acted rashly and killed him. A KID WHO WAS A MIRACLE TO SURVIVE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Great example to your fellow wizards on how to act in times needing wise judgement. Overall, if you have nothing else to do or nothing more exciting to watch, then by all means watch this. But if you want to watch madame president ERASE A GUYS MIND (not because he earned people's trust or because he never blabbed about the wizards throughout the entire film, thus eliminating the best 24ish hours of a mans life) but because of her stupefied fear. Honestly as a woman I wish she was shown as more, I don't know, human. More caring about others then about herself, especially about other people. But oh well, watch away and see her abuse her power. Here finishes my rant, enjoy the show. — GPJJA
Pretty good, although it's the worst film in the wizarding world so far. Not saying it's bad, they are all good but it could have been a lot better. — J_matt05
Fantastic Beast and where to find them
This was a really bad movie. I could not even get through the entire movie. No comparison to the HP franchise. Waste of a rental fee. Any chance of a refund or replacement rental? — DC BarB
I love all of JK Rowling creations — Nic =P
Strange plot where the lead gets buried. The main plot has nothing to do with a magical beast. Dan Folger steals the show as his character is the only interesting one. Very strange all around and incrediabley boring. — Frank C 66554321.
WHERE'S ALBUS DUMBLEDORE?!
I liked the movie, don't get me wrong. The CGI was great in my opinion. It's just that when I saw the trailer, I heard the words "Albus Dumbledore," and then that got my hopes up. So I searched on the web, "is Albus Dumbledore in fantastic beasts?", and I saw millions of things like, "Albus Dumbledore will be in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!". And now that I saw this movie, I'm very, very, very disappointed.(Sorry I had to put 3 stars!) — Guy23145🈲
Entertaining Movie for a Muggle
I liked it as did my partner. Regarding film, I can be quite picky as to what I like but Magnificent Creatures makes my list. Great actors, the storyline with excellent set design and well done CGI made this film a great flick; all ages would enjoy. Light hearted comedy (Giggle Water!) mixed with some dark scenes with interesting critters ! — SunStateGuy
This movie has huge potential going forward!
The Harry Potter world if very important to me, I was very sad to see it end with the final chapter of the HP saga. This movie takes place before Harry Potter which I think is awesome! I hope they keep the world alive with these movies. -- I really like this movie, the ending is okayish I think it could have been a little more classy like the HP evils that lay in its time. But the characters are great especially the main protagonist. The "beasts" are just phenomenal, they are so majestic and bizarre! I can't wait to see how saga unfolds inside the Harry Potter universe! Keep it up J.K. Rowling! — Christopher W. Hearne
This movie was horrible. No character development, horrible plot, awkward graphics, weird dialogue. It felt like the National Treasure 2 to the HP series without Nick Cage to make fun of. Anything above a 2-star review is based on pure excitement for another HP-universe film. Dear JK, quit while you're ahead. I am embarressed to be an HP fan after seeing this film. — confused (and embarressed)
I wanted to like it... but it was painfully boring
I wish I had read reviews before purchasing this film for my family to watch. The story was weak and all over the place, including predictable. I suggest you save your money and two hours of your life and look elsewhere. — DLSPHOTO
Greatest. Movie. Ever.
This movie is awesome!!! It's a wonderful action movie with a few twists. The ending was like putting the last piece in the puzzle. Loved it. — The person who likes life
Good, but some complaints
This movie is cute with all the animals so life like, but it has no plot. I mean, the Harry Potter movies were amazing, it's just that I think that they should've spent more time. — Color_Brownie101😛
Fantastic! (Caution, minor spoilers)
OK, I know that there are a lot of people who didn't like this movie, I don't understand why. This movie was amazing. I was reading the reviews and saw that someone was complaining about not knowing anything about the characters going into the movie, and nothing going out from the movie. I would like to address these issues. 1) We know nothing about Newt because we don't see anything about him in the original HP books or movies. 2) We do know things about him going out of the movie. Newt is very comfortable around his creatures, but around people he doesn't know what to do. When you watch the movie, you see that he never makes eye contact with humans, but with his creatures he knows exactly what to say and how to act. This leads us to conclude that he is antisocial. 3) The reason we don't know more about Newt and the other characters is because THERE ARE 5 MORE MOVIES scheduled for the Fantastic Beasts franchise. — HulkSmash2413
Too lighthearted for the cynical critic.... but good fun.
Every self important review lends itself to the nitpicky and overcritical written by those who couldn't muster an original thought if they tried. I don't even like "Harry Potter" and didn't exspect much from a 'spinoff'. That said, this was a harmless romp through some sketchy CG and overdone storytelling, but put together in such a way that creates alot of fun amongst the often overdone visuals. Besides a slight bit of innuendo, it never gets overtly sexual and becomes harmless fun, yet original enough set in a very appropriate time to pull off a scriopt that is overdone, with just enough finesse to make it worth the watch. I would rent the sequel if they ever made one. — nuenjins
Rent, dont purchase
Seemd like a jumble at first. Story takes way too long to develop nad by that time, they lost me. Overall not a bad movie but simply not great. I did like the characters but didnt get pulled in by the story. Rent this one unless you just have to have another JKR film in your library. — waydeg
Less magic. More story.
Oops. Spectacle is never enough. — jdbailey82
Just wow it gave me the excitement just like Harry Potter gave me. I'm lost of words for this movie... — One13 16
Play it in 2x if you dont want to fall asleep
Watch it in tv cable for free dont rent, Bad pace, missed opportunity to make a fun movie with intriguing details and relationships, no character development, awful movie — Jtpo cl
Could of been better
Great actors, but horrible story. — MysitcOrchid
Boring! If the actors (if you can call them that) would not mumble so much it might have been worth finishing. Having said that, they didn’t, so I didn’t. — PDWINPDX
Where are the beasts?!
Despite a suitcase full of "fantastic beasts," they are in no way shape or form integral to the plot. The deletion of several characters could have only improved the movie, and those that you do get attached to... You won't like the ending. Badly paced, boring, and horribly executed. They miss so many opportunities to make a great movie and instead deliver a worse than milquetoast spinoff. — Wastintime
This is a great addition to the Harry Potter series! This was a great first prequel! — Sean402
At first I was skeptical with all the hype around it, but it didn't take long for me to get pulled in. I loved seeing the interaction between American and British wizards and how different the cultures were. I'm looking forward to the sequels. — SlytherinThunder
pleasant continuation of all things Potter
Great actors, good material for them to work with. pleasant movie to watch more than once. — Skip 'old dog' Howard
Loved every minute of this magical film. So much charming whimsy & endearing characters. The fact that it is set in 1926 really was the icing on this fanciful cake. 💚🐉💚🐉👍 — Faux Anonymity
I never really watched all the other movies, they were too long and sometimes boring. This however was pretty good, although the cast seems less enjoyable than the other movies. — Music listener ;)
Yates is incapable
Such rich visual material, good casting, and the plot, as for me, is tolerably fertile, but - again - Yates' directing kills it all: he's tone deaf. No rhythm, no feeling, no understanding. The musical score is equally terrible: there's no connection between the movie and it's music. Pity and disgrace. — CrzIvan
how did you get away with it
You can understand setting this in america ... what with the films characters and the roles they play hi lighting modern american themes ... death penalty ... lack of compassion/empathy with nature ... capitalism etc etc I wonder if the studio ever truly understood this project? 2 stars because you got it made but please spend more time on the vfx. — dogspy
I loved it. I thought it was funny and I love being thrown back into the "wizarding" universe. — Itsuhhlexxus
My opinion: this was a brilliant movie, directed by a brilliant director, and it had a brilliant cast✨❤️ — Abbigirl0302
Fantastic Franchises and How to Milk Them — keypod
This movie demonstrates how much Rowling hates America. Somehow Rowling works capital punishment, racism and gun issues into a children's movie all for the sake of pushing her anti American political propaganda. I was skeptical of some critics pointing this out. But they were right, there's quite a bit of America bashing. Boycott Rowling! Don't buy this POS. — masperges
A sad jumble of sketches
The movie lacks coherence and flow. It lacks meaningful introduction, character development and, ultimately, purpose. Plus, Mr. Redmayne, please, PLEASE have some high-calorie food, clear out your vocal cords and, for Christ's sake, SPEAK UP! — tabaks
A magical trip to... boresville
A Harry Potter universe film! How bad could it be? BAD. If you are a male over 14 you will find this totally embarassing, annoying and BORING! I kept waiting for things to pick up... but halfway through the movie they had done nothing but try to make the film into a Harry Potter version of Jurrasic Park. I couldn't take it. — Scallawag
Dr Doolittle meets Dr Seuss
It was like Dr Doolittle meets Dr Seuss and teamed up. — AnonnonLauri
It's ok but...
It's missing the "magic" that made the Harry Potter films so great. — pholly
A neat spin off yet original
From beginning to end this movie was fun and quirky. The new characters were eccentric and impossible to not love! Looking forward to the next installment. — Ariauna
