Awful

Like watching paint dry. Don't waste your money or your time. — tim75

A bad movie overall
★★★★
The ending was bad and leaves you with a, "That's it?!" feeling. Characters were not developed right and there is a sense that is coming to a climax but it ends on a whimper. Deleted it from my iPad right away and I wll never watch it again. — Avion

Great cast, not worth the dollar rent
★★★★
Great cast in this film, but this movie was very slow moving. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are into “boardroom” thrillers. Otherwise, save your money. — kimbia

Slow. Boring. Go rent Wall Street (the original).
★★★★★
Not great performances. Slow pace. No thrill thriller. — Cutiger12000

Deeply flawed, clinical presentation
★★★★
Rotten tomatoes gives it away - 88% appears clearly indicative of a movie not worth my money or time. A friend who had not yet seen Inside Job or The Big Short highly recommended Margin Call and that should have been a very clear warning. Still, I sat through Margin Call hoping for something that never came. The script never invited me into the world of Wall Street Margin Call aims to portray. I had already been there myself. As a temp, an outsider who was witness to the atrociously flawed instruments bankers at Goldman and other places sold to willing politician buyers. As a temp I always remained an outsider. Margin Call treats its audience like that - as an outsider. How am I supposed to live the excitement of the discovery of a potential major financial catastrophe when the movie makes no attempt to explain what's going on? The movie depicts a sterile environment where the score is only a distraction and the acting is at best animated. Without the score the movie might have been more exciting and the actor's voices might have been better understandable. Yes, this is another one of those flawed audio engineering products where the music gets loud or they turn the mics down every time someone says anything remotely significant. A one star rating is perhaps a bit dramatically low. Then again, thanks to the negligence of the current Administration, my family is still feeling the effects of the 2008 disaster so why should I pay for a marginal production such as Margin Call? If Apple had paid me to watch it it would still not have been worth my time. — cv888

100 minutes of my life I’ll never get back
★★★★
Luckily, I watched this movie on a flight. I don’t understand how this movie garnered so many high reviews other than the fact that there is an all star cast. Which, is even more mind boggling as to why these people would bother with a movie like this. — Giggalo

So bad...
★★★★
I wanted to really like this movie but the acting was so bad… which is unfortunate given the line-up. My wife and I kept laughing at the poor dialog in various situations. Even the plot jumped around too much and was inconsistent to the main theme. Disappointing. — jpfour23

Yawn

Very boring and slow moving. Don't waste your time! — Digital Mitch

Excellent
★★★★★
This is a GREAT movie about what actually happened on Wall St that affected us all and still does. The negative reviews are from people who watch Taken 2 & 3 and think it's good. Enough said. — Dongman310

Not for the Idiocracy A.D.D. Generation
★★★★★
Great film, a reality of what this country has become. The fresh scent of story, haven’t got a whiff of that in a while. No FX, just story. — Lepointe

Margin Call
★★★★
This was the worst movie I have seen in over ten years. The producer, writer, and director wanted to make a political statement. They could have done so within two minutes and saved me one hour and 45 minutes of my time that I will never get back! Do not wast your time!!!! — Mick350

Obtuse superficial and assuming
★★★★
High powered actors with a lame script and some of the worst dialog and camera work since Blair Witch Project, but with less plot. Dialog was horrendously obtuse. Unless you are familiar with the real debacle, you might not figure out what they were actually selling and buying. So much of the dialog is "F" this and "F-ing" that it is distracting. And if you have never been through a corporate collapse, much of what was going on would be a complete confusing hodgepodge of "huh?". A vertical market movie that would have made a decent short story in some pulp fiction rag. Waste of couch time. — Wm.

No rent?
★★★★
Why do I have to buy it! I just want to rent it! — Silvia MX

Great Performances
★★★★★
This film is not for people with one-track minds or short attention spans. It is not a fast-paced action flick. It's a slow paced drama with great performances driven by a meticulously detailed story. For what it is, the pacing is great. — tonyateallmycheerios

Solid Film
★★★★★
I'm an 18 year old girl whose knowledge of the trade and finance business is limited to one economics course and the news and I still found this film to be very interesting. No, it isn't fast-paced. No, no one makes out. No, there isn't some dramatic car chase or explosions or murder plot or any of that. It's methodical, but I still very much enjoyed watching it on a rainy afternoon. The acting, I felt, was top-notch, and from what I read, it is true to the subject matter. It's a great watch for an intelligent mind. — OutrageousV

I watch it over and over.
★★★★★
I love this movie. Just some guys on Wall Street, but it's all about one night's crisis, and it's mesmerizing. The characters are great. — russael

As Realitic as it Gets!
★★★★★
With the exception of Demi Moore, the cast is so realistic its hard to believe they are not Wall street traders. The story line is amazingly realistic as it gets. The cast is brilliant and hits the nail on the head on the inside issue of the MBS meltdown. Jeremy Irons is amazing and a very believable CEO of a bond brokerage house. it might very well be the best movie about Wall Street ever made.. Strongly recommond watching it.. You will not be disappointed!. — Trader Lou

Bold Statement
★★★★★
As you will read below, this movie is not for everyone. So what? It's still a bold step to say things that need to be said, need to be imagined & considered just what do you do next in these times under these circumstances? Great things are not always understood the first time you witness them. This film is proof of that. Outsitde the box ~ "Standing Ovation." — foremostpoets

ok film, not great
★★★★★
i work in the industry... A lot of the scenes are exaggerated. example: they dont give you the pink slip on the tradig floor... they take you up to HR office... Details aside, the movie should be pretty good representation of what has conceptually been happening JPM CIO. — inaiinaiinai

Margin Call
★★★★★
This is the kind of film I wait for; not only is the subject matter worthy (compared to aliens/robots fighting, etc.) but the acting and every actor is stellar in this; Jeremy Irons….wow. Even though brief, Simon Baker should always play a bad guy, he's so good. Kevin Spacey, when are you not heart and soul in a character? This is a must see and timeless. — awardwinner

I would highly recommend this film. This is a movie for anyone who appreciates exceptional acting. You don't have to a PhD in Finance to understand but it gives you a flavor of what PhD could and did do. — martiniour

put me to sleep

This movie lacked the energy and excitement one would expect in the dog eat dog world of the financia melt down. I thought it was slow, lacked suspense and always left me wondering when the real movie would kick in.... and then it was over. — BlueCalypso

must see!
★★★★★
a great cast that doesn't disappoint in any matter paired with a good story. Being part of the industry I have to point out that the story and characters are very realistic. Its not like wall street anymore these days, its not those floor traders yelling around acting like "big swinging dicks" . This movie picks up the real life well and the cast acts just like they should. This is definitely one of the best movies of 2011 and the one that would have deserved to be wall street II. — Suresh Frank Bhandary

Awesome drama
★★★★★
Great performances and directing — Nicolas Adamakis

Superb Wall Street drama
★★★★★
This is a superb Wall Street thriller -- in the sense of you know how it all ends, this gives you great insight into how it all went bad…Those who do not know anything about stocks, brokers, and banking will probably be a bit lost for the first half hour -- stick with it -- it all becomes apparent by the time the firings begin…it's all explained for you, but it's not overdone -- i.e., you need to listen, watch, and learn…super ensemble cast led by Zchary Quinto and Kevin Spacey (in underplayed nuanced mode here). A great adult movie that leaves you shaking your head by the end. Probably the best Wall Street movie ever made. — RonAnnArbor

Great movie that entertained without a single explosion. The cast was well chosen -- Jeremy Irons makes a great bad guy, Kevin Spacey is fantastic, and Zach Quinto continues to show his versatility. Nicely done. — ShewbieDo

Not worth one star
★★★★
I'm not sure who's reviewing this movie, however as someone who works on "the street" (no, I'm not a trader making unGodly money), I have to assume that anyone who gives this movie a good review knows little to nothing about finance. In terms of explaining the credit crunch or what brought on the collapse of the markets in 07-08, trust me when I say this movie provides ZERO insight. I'm supposed to believe that a junior analyst figured out that the MBS assets in his bank are worthless while NOBODY else figured it out? If a bank tried to sell like they did all these assets in 1 day, I assure you it would never have worked. Quite frankly, the "bonuses" the bank supposedly paid to each trader if they sold 93% of their assets was nothing less then comical. It's simply not done that way. Despite a strong cast (with the exception of Moore who looked as confused in this movie as she would be if you asked her what MBS stood for in real life), this movie/story was AWFUL. If you want REAL insight into the collapse of the market, read "too big too fail" or something of that nature. This film has as much reality as Lord of the Rings or Narnia. — Vbmrk

Marginally good
★★★★★
Dry story. Not much meat and lots of bees just scattered about. The movie "inside job" was much better. — shawada

OK AMERICA, This may wake you up if you are able to be woken up from your ignorance bliss you try to live in! THis shows exactly why they do what they do to us americans! — Cobe5050

Worth watching
★★★★★
Not as good as 'Too Big to Fail', but worth watching. Captures the stress and high stakes involved and does a good job portraying the young Wall Streeters, but a bit too cliche and surface level when it comes to the higher ups. — glengarry224

Interesting...
★★★★★
...if only I understood it. I consider myself an average guy, but I don't consider myself well-read when it comes to Wall Street. This movie is clearly a movie for folks with vast knowledge of Wall Street... I think. I got the jist of what was going on, but I didn't fully understand everything that was going on. And as far as the way it ended... Wow - bad ending. — Pelican33

Really?
★★★★
For those of us who study business/finance/accounting in college, this movie seemed very interesting to watch. However, I admit the story line and plot were very poor. The movie revolves around a single problem which extends for way too long. The ending was absolutely ridic with no sense or meaning. Like ok? What's supposed to happen after. — guntersjr

not that great.
★★★★★
didnt see anything nice about this movie....i could see how they tried to get a few points across but it really just didnt work out and there was no explanation to the central problems. — Viva Le Vida
